Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) is an international, independent medical humanitarian organisation. In Uganda, MSF Switzerland provides emergency medical aid to populations in distress, victims of natural or man-made disasters, and victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide technical expertise and strategic guidance on all Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities for MSF projects in Uganda.
- Conduct assessments, design, and oversee the implementation of water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion programmes.
- Develop and adapt WASH protocols and standards to the Ugandan context, ensuring compliance with MSF and international standards.
- Train and mentor national staff and counterparts on WATSAN principles and emergency response.
- Coordinate with Ministry of Health officials, local authorities, and other NGOs on WASH-related issues.
- Manage budgets, procure equipment, and ensure the efficient use of resources for WASH interventions.
- Monitor and evaluate programme impact, preparing detailed reports for the coordination team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Water Engineering, Environmental Health, Civil Engineering, Public Health, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in WASH programme management, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts within East Africa.
- Strong practical experience in designing and implementing water supply (boreholes, pipelines, treatment) and sanitation (latrines, waste management) systems.
- In-depth knowledge of SPHERE standards and Ugandan WASH sector policies.
- Excellent leadership, training, and communication skills.
- Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of local languages (e.g., Luganda, Acholi, Swahili) is a strong asset.
- Ability to work effectively in challenging environments and to travel extensively within Uganda.
