WASH Engineer Job Opportunity at World Vision International - Mbale, Uganda
Are you a dedicated Civil Engineer passionate about transforming rural communities through sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) solutions? World Vision International is seeking a qualified and experienced WASH Engineer to join our team in Mbale, Uganda. This is a rewarding opportunity to lead impactful projects that directly improve the health and livelihoods of vulnerable populations in Eastern Uganda.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Lead the design, planning, and implementation of comprehensive water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in rural communities.
- Develop technical designs and drawings for sustainable water systems, including boreholes, piped schemes, and rainwater harvesting structures.
- Supervise and monitor all construction and rehabilitation activities, ensuring adherence to technical specifications, timelines, and budgets.
- Conduct capacity-building sessions and provide technical training to local community staff, water user committees, and partner organisations.
- Ensure all WASH infrastructure complies with Ugandan national water standards and World Vision's global quality benchmarks.
- Prepare detailed project reports, feasibility studies, and documentation for donors and stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with local government authorities, community leaders, and other NGOs to ensure project alignment and sustainability.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or a directly related field from a recognised institution.
- A minimum of 4 years of proven hands-on experience in WASH project management within the Ugandan context, preferably with an NGO.
- In-depth knowledge of Ugandan water standards, public health guidelines, and the local construction environment.
- Strong proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, WaterCAD) and project management tools.
- Excellent communication, training, and community engagement skills.
- Valid riding permit (Class A) is an added advantage.
