Chief Marine Engineer Job in Kampala - Uganda Railways Corporation (URC)

Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) is seeking a highly experienced and qualified Chief Engineer – Marine to join our team in Kampala. This is a senior leadership role critical to the maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency of our marine assets on Lake Victoria and other inland waterways. Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Provide overall technical leadership and management for all marine engineering operations.
• Ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation and maintenance of vessels, engines, and associated marine equipment.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with national and international maritime safety regulations.
• Lead a team of marine engineers and technicians, providing mentorship and performance management.
• Manage budgets, prepare technical reports, and oversee procurement of marine spares and equipment.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of marine and rail logistics.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field from a recognised institution. A Master's degree will be an added advantage.
• Must be a fully registered Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) of Uganda.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in marine engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior supervisory or management role.
• In-depth knowledge of marine diesel engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary machinery.
• Proven experience with vessel classification societies and maritime regulatory bodies.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent understanding of budget management and procurement processes in Uganda.
