Chief Marine Engineer Job in Kampala - Uganda Railways Corporation (URC)
Job Description
Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) is seeking a highly experienced and qualified Chief Engineer – Marine to join our team in Kampala. This is a senior leadership role critical to maintaining and advancing Uganda's marine transport infrastructure, a key component of national development and regional trade.
As the Chief Marine Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and strategic direction for all marine engineering operations. You will oversee the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of URC's marine vessels and related port infrastructure, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
• Provide expert technical leadership and management for all marine engineering activities.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for marine vessels and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with national and international maritime safety regulations and standards.
• Manage the marine engineering budget, procurement of parts, and inventory control.
• Lead a team of marine engineers and technicians, providing mentorship and performance management.
• Oversee dry-docking operations, major repairs, and vessel surveys.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and proposals for fleet upgrades or new acquisitions.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless port and rail logistics operations.
Requirements & Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a closely related field. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
• Must be a registered Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) of Uganda.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in marine engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior supervisory or management role.
• In-depth knowledge of marine diesel engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary ship systems.
• Proven experience with marine safety management systems and regulatory compliance.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent project management and budgetary control abilities.
