WASH Engineer Job in Mbale, Uganda - Water & Sanitation Projects

World Vision International Uganda is seeking a qualified and experienced WASH Engineer to join our team in Mbale, Eastern Uganda. This is a rewarding opportunity to lead critical water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects that directly improve community health and livelihoods.

As a WASH Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical design, implementation, and supervision of sustainable WASH infrastructure. You will work closely with communities, local government, and partners to ensure the successful delivery of projects that provide clean water, proper sanitation, and promote essential hygiene practices.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Design and prepare technical drawings for water supply systems (boreholes, piped systems, rainwater harvesting) and sanitation facilities (latrines, handwashing stations) using AutoCAD and other engineering software.
• Provide on-site supervision and technical oversight for all construction and rehabilitation works, ensuring compliance with national standards and donor requirements.
• Lead community mobilisation and engagement activities to ensure project ownership and promote positive hygiene and sanitation behaviour change.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, budgets, and project documentation for management and donors.
• Conduct capacity-building sessions for community-based structures and local artisans on operation and maintenance of WASH facilities.
• Collaborate with the district water office and other stakeholders to ensure project alignment with local government plans.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
• Must be a registered engineer with the Uganda Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
• A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in WASH project implementation within the Ugandan context, preferably with an NGO.
• High proficiency in engineering design software, especially AutoCAD, and strong project management skills.
• Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages in Eastern Uganda (e.g., Lumasaaba) is a strong advantage.
• Proven ability to work in rural community settings and a strong commitment to World Vision's mission and values.
