Job Description
TotalEnergies EP Uganda, a global leader in energy production, is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Uganda. This is a senior, regular position offering a unique opportunity to contribute to Uganda's growing energy sector while working with cutting-edge technology and international standards.
As the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing mechanical engineering activities for our upstream oil and gas operations. You will ensure the integrity, reliability, and optimal performance of mechanical systems and equipment, directly contributing to the success and safety of our major projects in the country.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide technical leadership and expertise in mechanical engineering for oil and gas facilities
• Oversee the design, specification, installation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment including turbines, compressors, pumps, and piping systems
• Ensure all mechanical engineering activities comply with TotalEnergies standards, Ugandan regulations, and international safety codes
• Lead a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, providing mentorship and technical guidance
• Conduct risk assessments, reliability studies, and failure analyses to optimise equipment performance
• Manage contractor performance and ensure quality assurance for all mechanical works
• Prepare and review technical documentation, reports, and engineering drawings
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including process, electrical, and civil engineers
Requirements & Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution (Master's degree preferred)
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in mechanical engineering within the oil and gas industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
• Professional registration with the Engineers Registration Board of Uganda is mandatory
• Extensive knowledge of API, ASME, and other relevant international standards
• Proven experience with rotating equipment, pressure vessels, and pipeline systems
• Strong project management skills and experience with engineering software tools
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
