PATH Uganda is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Technical Advisor for Malaria Case Management to join our team in Kampala. This is a senior-level position within the renowned USAID-funded Malaria Action Program for Districts (MAPD) project, offering a unique opportunity to contribute directly to Uganda's national malaria control efforts.
As the Technical Advisor, you will provide critical technical leadership and oversight to strengthen malaria case management at both health facility and community levels across Uganda. You will work in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and District Health Teams to improve the quality of diagnosis, treatment, and referral services for malaria.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide expert technical leadership in the design, implementation, and monitoring of all malaria case management activities under the MAPD project.
- Support the Ministry of Health and district teams to develop, review, and update national malaria case management guidelines, training materials, and job aids.
- Build the capacity of health workers and Village Health Teams (VHTs) through comprehensive training, mentorship, and supportive supervision.
- Promote the integration of malaria services with other key health programmes, including maternal and child health, nutrition, and HIV/AIDS.
- Collaborate with supply chain teams to ensure consistent availability of essential malaria commodities like rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) and antimalarial medicines.
- Monitor, evaluate, and use data to improve the quality of malaria case management services and document best practices for national dissemination.
- Represent PATH and the MAPD project in national and sub-national technical working groups and forums.
- Contribute to project reporting, strategic work planning, and budgeting.
- Supervise and mentor project staff and partners involved in case management activities.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- A Medical Degree (MD, MBChB) OR an advanced degree (Master's) in Public Health, Nursing, or a closely related field.
- At least five (5) years of proven, hands-on experience in malaria case management or clinical malaria programmes within Uganda.
- Strong experience working directly with Uganda's Ministry of Health and District Health Teams.
- In-depth knowledge of malaria epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies in the Ugandan context.
- Demonstrated expertise in training, mentorship, and supportive supervision of health workers.
- Excellent understanding of Uganda's health system structure and current malaria control policies (e.g., the Uganda Malaria Reduction Strategic Plan).
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local Ugandan languages (e.g., Luganda, Runyankole, etc.) is a strong asset.
This is a full-time, senior-level position based in Kampala with expected travel to project districts. PATH offers a competitive NGO remuneration package commensurate with experience, a collaborative work environment, and the chance to make a significant impact on public health in Uganda.
