Job Description
Compassion International, a leading Christian child development organisation, is seeking a seasoned Senior Program Manager - Health to lead and shape the strategic direction of our health-related programmes in Uganda. This is a senior leadership role based in Kampala, offering the opportunity to make a significant impact on public health outcomes for children and families across the country.
About the Role
As the Senior Program Manager - Health, you will provide technical leadership and oversee the implementation of health interventions that align with both Compassion's mission and Uganda's national health priorities. You will ensure programme quality, manage key partnerships, and lead a dedicated team towards achieving sustainable health improvements in communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall strategic leadership, design, and planning for Compassion's health programmes in Uganda.
- Lead, mentor, and build the capacity of the health programme team.
- Oversee robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) frameworks to track programme impact.
- Manage and strengthen partnerships with government bodies, local NGOs, and other stakeholders in Uganda's health sector.
- Ensure effective financial management, budgeting, and grant compliance for all health projects.
- Represent Compassion in national health forums and technical working groups.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Master's degree in Public Health, International Development, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience managing complex public health programmes within an international NGO context.
- Substantial experience working in Uganda or the East African region is essential.
- Proven technical expertise in areas such as Maternal and Child Health (MCH), Nutrition, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), or Infectious Disease control.
- Demonstrated strong leadership, strategic planning, and financial management skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of local Ugandan languages (e.g., Luganda, Runyankole) is a strong asset.
