BRAC Uganda Bank Limited, a leading financial institution in Uganda, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax and Payments Manager to join our dynamic finance team in Kampala. This is a senior-level position offering an excellent opportunity to manage critical tax compliance and payment functions within Uganda's banking sector.

About the Role

As our Tax and Payments Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring full compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) regulations and other statutory requirements. You will be responsible for managing all tax-related functions, optimising our tax position, and maintaining the highest standards of integrity in financial operations. This position reports directly to the Head of Finance and offers significant career growth potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure timely and accurate computation, filing, and payment of all statutory taxes including PAYE, Corporation Tax, Withholding Tax (WHT), VAT, Stamp Duty, and Excise Duty through URA's eTax/eFiling system
• Maintain up-to-date tax records and ensure compliance with Bank of Uganda (BoU), URA, and Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) regulations
• Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports to management and regulatory authorities
• Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services to optimise the bank's tax efficiency
• Review new financial products, contracts, and transactions to assess tax implications and mitigate risks
• Liaise with URA during tax audits, queries, and investigations
• Manage supplier payment processes and maintain effective payment reconciliation frameworks
• Supervise and mentor finance officers involved in tax-related tasks
• Conduct regular tax training sessions for finance and business teams
• Streamline and automate tax processes to improve efficiency and accuracy

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, or Business Administration
• Professional accounting qualification (ACCA/CPA) is mandatory
• Postgraduate certification in Taxation is an added advantage
• Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in taxation within a financial institution, audit firm, or tax advisory firm at supervisor level
• Proven experience managing tax compliance with URA and handling tax audits
• Strong understanding of Uganda's tax laws, IFRS, and financial sector regulations
• Proficiency in accounting software including Orbit and Microsoft accounting applications
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
