Safety Supervisor Job at Kakira Sugar Limited in Jinja, Uganda

Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL), a leading sugar manufacturer in Uganda, is seeking a qualified and experienced Safety Supervisor to join our team. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety, health, and environment (SHE) across our factories and plantation sites in Jinja.

Overall Purpose of the Job:
You will coordinate and manage the implementation of the end-to-end SHE system, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees and compliance with Ugandan legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Manage and implement the complete Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) management system.
• Coordinate all internal and external SHE audits and ensure corrective actions are followed up across all assigned departments and sites.
• Continuously update the SHE system with new Ugandan legal and other applicable requirements relevant to KSL operations.
• Liaise with Heads of Department and Section Heads to conduct thorough hazard identification, risk assessments, and environmental impact assessments.
• Follow up on the implementation of appropriate control measures to mitigate identified risks.
• Lead and coordinate incident and accident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified.
• Drive the implementation of corrective actions and one-point lessons learned from incidents to prevent recurrence.
• Support a culture of safety excellence and awareness throughout the organisation.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience (typically 3-5 years) in a safety supervisory role within a manufacturing, industrial, or agricultural setting in Uganda.
• In-depth knowledge of Ugandan SHE legislation and standards.
• Strong experience in conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and liaise effectively with all levels of management.
• Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH) is a strong advantage.
