Research Officer - Value Chains Job at Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Kampala
Job Description
The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) is seeking a qualified and motivated Research Officer specialising in Value Chains to join our team in Kampala. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Uganda's national development agenda by conducting critical research that informs economic policy and planning.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of analysing agricultural and industrial value chains to identify constraints, opportunities, and pathways for enhancing productivity, competitiveness, and inclusive growth within the Ugandan economy. Your work will directly support the Ministry's mandate of formulating sound economic policies.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
β’ Conduct in-depth research and analysis on priority value chains within Uganda's economy.
β’ Collect, process, and analyse both primary and secondary data related to production, marketing, financing, and policy environments for specific value chains.
β’ Develop analytical reports, policy briefs, and presentations that clearly communicate research findings and actionable recommendations to policymakers and stakeholders.
β’ Monitor and evaluate the impact of existing policies and programmes on targeted value chains.
β’ Collaborate with government agencies, private sector players, development partners, and research institutions.
β’ Support the Ministry in evidence-based planning and budgeting processes related to sectoral development.
Requirements & Qualifications:
β’ A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a closely related field. A Master's degree will be an added advantage.
β’ At least 3 years of proven experience in economic research, value chain analysis, or agricultural/industrial development research.
β’ Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, with proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R).
β’ Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
β’ A good understanding of Uganda's economic structure, development plans (like NDP III), and the policy-making process.
β’ Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic government environment.
