Job Description

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) is seeking a dedicated and analytical Research Officer specialising in Value Chains to join our team in Kampala. This is a vital role within Uganda's premier economic planning institution, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to national development strategies and economic transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on priority agricultural and industrial value chains in Uganda.
  • Collect, process, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data related to value chain performance, constraints, and opportunities.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and presentations on value chain development for senior ministry officials and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of government policies and programmes on specific value chains.
  • Collaborate with other government agencies, development partners, and private sector actors on value chain initiatives.
  • Support the formulation of evidence-based recommendations to enhance value chain efficiency, competitiveness, and inclusivity.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master's degree is a strong advantage.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in economic research, value chain analysis, or a related field, preferably within the Ugandan context.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in statistical software (e.g., STATA, SPSS, R) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • A deep understanding of Uganda's economic landscape, particularly the agriculture and industry sectors.
