Job Description
The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) of Uganda is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional for the position of Executive Secretary for the Energy Regulators Association of East Africa (EREA). This is a senior leadership role based in Kampala, Uganda, offering a unique opportunity to shape regional energy policy and regulation across East Africa.
About the Role:
As the Executive Secretary of EREA, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and administrative oversight to the Association. You will work closely with energy regulators from across East Africa to harmonise policies, build capacity, and promote sustainable energy development in the region. This is a critical role for an individual passionate about the energy sector and regional integration.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Provide executive leadership and manage the day-to-day operations of the EREA Secretariat.
β’ Facilitate cooperation and information exchange among member regulatory authorities in East Africa.
β’ Coordinate the development and implementation of regional energy regulatory frameworks and programmes.
β’ Represent EREA at high-level regional and international forums, meetings, and conferences.
β’ Prepare and manage the Association's budget, work plans, and reports for the Governing Council.
β’ Foster partnerships with development partners, regional bodies, and other stakeholders in the energy sector.
Requirements & Qualifications:
β’ A Master's degree in Law, Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. A PhD will be an added advantage.
β’ Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management or leadership role within the energy sector, public administration, or an international organisation.
β’ Proven experience in policy formulation, regional cooperation, and stakeholder management.
β’ Excellent understanding of the East African energy sector and regulatory landscape.
β’ Outstanding communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
β’ Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Kiswahili or French is a strong asset.
