Research Officer (Value Chains) Job at Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development - Kampala
Job Description
The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) is seeking a dedicated and analytical Research Officer specialising in Value Chains to join our team in Kampala. This is a key role within Uganda's premier economic planning institution, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to national development strategies and economic transformation.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on agricultural, industrial, and service sector value chains critical to Uganda's economy.
- Collect, process, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data to identify constraints and opportunities within specific value chains.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and presentations on research findings for senior ministry officials and stakeholders.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of existing government policies and programmes on targeted value chains.
- Collaborate with other government agencies, development partners, and private sector actors to gather insights and validate research.
- Support the formulation of evidence-based policy recommendations to enhance value chain efficiency, competitiveness, and inclusivity.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a closely related field. A Master's degree is a strong advantage.
- At least 3 years of proven experience in economic research, value chain analysis, or agricultural/industrial development research.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, with proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R).
- Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- A deep understanding of the Ugandan economy and its key productive sectors.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
