Job Description

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MFPED) is seeking a qualified and experienced Research Officer specialising in Value Chains to join our dynamic team in Kampala. This is a critical role supporting Uganda's economic development agenda through research, analysis, and policy formulation for key agricultural and industrial value chains.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on selected agricultural and industrial value chains in Uganda.
  • Collect, compile, and analyse primary and secondary data related to production, processing, marketing, and financing within value chains.
  • Identify constraints, opportunities, and bottlenecks within specific value chains and propose evidence-based interventions.
  • Prepare high-quality research reports, policy briefs, and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of existing value chain development programmes and policies.
  • Collaborate with other government agencies, development partners, private sector actors, and research institutions.
  • Stay updated on national, regional, and global trends affecting Ugandan value chains.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master's degree is a strong advantage.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in research, preferably focusing on value chain analysis, agribusiness, or industrial development in the Ugandan context.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, with proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R).
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Uganda's National Development Plan (NDP III) and related sector development plans.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
