Job Description
NCBA Bank Uganda, a leading financial institution in the country, is seeking a skilled and experienced Remedial Manager to join our Credit Risk Management division. This is a senior-level opportunity in Kampala for a professional passionate about managing credit risk and driving recoveries within Uganda's dynamic banking sector.
As the Manager for the Remedial & Recoveries unit, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the bank's assets. You will develop and execute strategies to manage non-performing loans (NPLs) and maximise recoveries, directly contributing to the financial health and stability of NCBA Bank Uganda.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Develop, implement, and oversee effective remedial management and debt recovery strategies.
- Lead and manage the Remedial & Recoveries team, providing guidance and performance management.
- Analyse and manage a portfolio of non-performing accounts to minimise financial loss.
- Negotiate and structure repayment plans with customers in default.
- Liaise with legal counsel and external agents to facilitate recoveries through legal processes where necessary.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on the remedial portfolio status, recovery rates, and trends to senior management.
- Ensure all recovery activities comply with the Bank of Uganda regulations and internal bank policies.
- Stay updated on Ugandan economic and market conditions affecting credit risk.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is a strong advantage.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in credit risk management, remedial management, or debt recovery within a commercial bank in Uganda.
- Proven track record of successfully managing a recovery portfolio and leading a team.
- In-depth knowledge of Ugandan banking laws, the legal recovery process, and Bank of Uganda guidelines.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership capabilities and communication skills.
