FHI 360, a leading international non-governmental organisation, is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Health Systems Strengthening Advisor for its anticipated USAID/Uganda Integrated Health Systems Strengthening (IHSS) Activity. This is a senior-level opportunity to provide technical leadership and drive meaningful improvements in Uganda's health sector from our office in Kampala.
Job Summary
As the Health Systems Strengthening Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing interventions to strengthen core components of Uganda's health system. You will provide expert guidance to enhance health financing, human resources for health (HRH), supply chain management, and governance, working closely with the Ministry of Health and other key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for health systems strengthening (HSS) activities under the USAID/Uganda IHSS project.
- Design, implement, and monitor interventions targeting key health system building blocks: financing, HRH, supply chain, and governance.
- Build the capacity of Ugandan government staff, particularly within the Ministry of Health, and local partner organisations in HSS principles and practices.
- Develop and deliver high-quality training, workshops, and facilitation sessions for diverse stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with a team of experts and independently to achieve project goals and deliverables.
- Contribute to project reporting, documentation of best practices, and knowledge management.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A Masterβs degree in Public Health, Health Systems, Health Economics, or a closely related field is mandatory.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive, hands-on experience in health systems strengthening programmes.
- Proven experience working within Uganda or similar East African contexts is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated strong technical expertise in at least one of the WHO health systems building blocks.
- Established experience collaborating with the Ugandan Ministry of Health, districts, and other health sector stakeholders.
- Excellent training, mentorship, and facilitation skills.
- Strong ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
