Job Description

ACTED Uganda is seeking a skilled and dedicated GIS and Data Officer to join our humanitarian team. This is an exciting opportunity for a data professional to contribute to impactful projects across Uganda, supporting evidence-based decision-making and programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain geographic information systems (GIS) databases and spatial data infrastructure for ACTED's programmes in Uganda.
  • Collect, process, and analyse spatial and non-spatial data from field assessments, surveys, and secondary sources.
  • Produce high-quality maps, infographics, and data visualisations to support reporting, proposal development, and programme planning.
  • Conduct spatial analysis (e.g., hotspot analysis, service mapping, vulnerability assessments) to inform humanitarian and development interventions.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security in line with organisational and donor requirements.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to field staff on data collection tools (like Kobo Toolbox) and basic GIS concepts.
  • Collaborate with programme teams to integrate GIS and data analysis into monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) activities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in GIS, data management, and analysis, preferably within the NGO or humanitarian sector in Uganda.
  • High proficiency in GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS) and data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, or similar).
  • Strong skills in database management and data visualisation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Luganda, Acholi, Runyankole) is a strong asset.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and ACTED's mission.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive NGO salary and benefits package.
  • A dynamic and supportive work environment with opportunities for professional growth.
  • The chance to work on meaningful projects that make a difference in communities across Uganda.
  • Comprehensive training and capacity-building opportunities.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates should submit their application via the official portal. The closing date for applications is 28 December 2025. ACTED is an equal opportunity employer. We strongly encourage qualified Ugandan nationals, especially women, to apply.

Note: Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
