Deputy Director of Programs Job at IRC Uganda - Senior NGO Role
Job Description
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Uganda is seeking an experienced and strategic Deputy Director of Programs to join our senior leadership team. This is a senior-level opportunity for a humanitarian professional to oversee program quality, strategy, and implementation across Uganda.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all IRC Uganda programs, ensuring alignment with country strategy and organisational goals.
- Lead programme development, design, and proposal writing for new funding opportunities from major donors like USAID, FCDO, and EU.
- Ensure high-quality programme implementation, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) across all sectors.
- Manage and mentor a team of programme managers and technical coordinators, fostering a culture of professional growth.
- Represent IRC with key stakeholders including government ministries, UN agencies, donors, and NGO partners in Uganda.
- Ensure compliance with IRC and donor policies, procedures, and regulations in all programme activities.
- Contribute to the overall country programme strategy and annual planning processes.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Master's degree in International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in programme management within the humanitarian or development sector, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven experience managing large, complex programmes funded by multiple international donors in Uganda or the East Africa region.
- Strong technical knowledge in one or more of IRC's sectors: health, protection, economic recovery, education, or governance.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and capacity-building skills.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated ability in strategic planning, proposal development, and budget management.
- Strong understanding of the Ugandan context and the operational environment for NGOs.
