Financial Accountant Job in Kampala - UGAFODE Microfinance Ltd (MDI)

UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI), a leading and trusted financial institution in Uganda founded in 1994, is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our team at the Head Office in Kampala. This is an excellent career opportunity for an accounting professional looking to contribute to the financial integrity and growth of a respected Ugandan microfinance company. You will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with Bank of Uganda regulations.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
• Prepare, examine, and analyse accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports.
• Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported in compliance with Ugandan accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, and oversee the reconciliation of bank statements.
• Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting processes.
• Support internal and external audit processes and implement audit recommendations.
• Prepare and submit statutory returns to relevant authorities, including URA and Bank of Uganda.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of month-end and year-end close processes.
• Contribute to the development of internal financial policies and procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field from a recognised university.
• Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 3 years of proven work experience as an accountant, preferably within the financial services or banking sector in Uganda.
• Strong understanding of Ugandan financial regulations and tax laws.
• Proficiency in accounting software and advanced MS Excel skills.
• High level of integrity, accuracy, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
