Deputy Director of Programmes Job Opportunity at IRC Uganda
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Uganda is seeking a dynamic and experienced Deputy Director of Programmes to join our senior leadership team. This is a senior-level position based in Kampala, Uganda, offering a unique opportunity to shape and oversee humanitarian and development programmes that impact vulnerable communities across the country.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all IRC Uganda programmes, ensuring alignment with the country strategy and organisational goals.
- Lead programme development, design, and quality implementation across sectors including health, protection, economic recovery, and education.
- Manage and mentor a team of programme managers and technical coordinators, fostering a culture of high performance and professional development.
- Ensure programme quality, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) systems meet IRC and donor standards.
- Represent IRC with key stakeholders, including government partners, donors, UN agencies, and NGO forums in Uganda.
- Lead on new business development, including proposal writing and securing funding from institutional donors.
- Ensure effective grant management, compliance, and timely reporting to donors and headquarters.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Master's degree in International Development, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in programme management within the humanitarian or development sector, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven experience managing large, complex, multi-donor programmes in Uganda or the East Africa region.
- Strong expertise in programme cycle management, MEAL, and donor compliance (e.g., USAID, FCDO, ECHO, UN).
- Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Deep understanding of the Ugandan context and the operational environment for NGOs.
