Community Health Specialist Job in Mbarara, Uganda - PATH Careers
Job Description
PATH Uganda is seeking an experienced and dedicated Community Health Specialist to join our team in Mbarara. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on community health outcomes in southwestern Uganda by supporting and strengthening community-based health interventions.
As a Community Health Specialist with PATH, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between health facilities and communities. You will work directly with district health teams, community health workers (CHWs), and local stakeholders to improve the delivery and accessibility of essential health services at the grassroots level.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provide high-quality technical support and guidance for the implementation of community health programmes.
- Train, mentor, and build the capacity of community health workers and volunteers in southwestern Uganda.
- Support the effective integration of community health services with facility-based care to create a seamless health system.
- Develop, implement, and monitor innovative community mobilisation and engagement strategies.
- Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of community health activities to measure impact and inform improvements.
- Document programme best practices, lessons learned, and success stories for reporting and knowledge sharing.
- Foster strong collaboration with local government authorities, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in community health programming, preferably within the Ugandan context.
- Proven experience in training, mentoring, and working directly with community health workers in Uganda.
- In-depth knowledge of Uganda’s Community Health Strategy and the public health landscape.
- Excellent training, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in rural and remote settings with limited resources.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in local languages spoken in southwestern Uganda (e.g., Runyankole) is a strong advantage.
