Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Job at Opportunity Bank Uganda in Kampala

Opportunity Bank Uganda, a leading microfinance and retail bank, is seeking a visionary and strategic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead our mission-driven organisation. This executive role in Kampala is pivotal in transforming the Bank's operations to maximise reach, sustainability, and impact, particularly in serving the poor and drastically increasing our lending portfolio.

As the CEO, you will provide overall direction, insight, and counsel to the Board of Directors and shareholders. You will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of corporate policies and strategies that drive growth, customer centricity, and digital innovation within Uganda's dynamic financial sector.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Provide strategic leadership and set clear, measurable objectives to achieve the Bank's vision and mission.
• Drive business development and acumen to identify new opportunities and ensure a competitive edge in the Ugandan market.
• Champion a culture of customer-centricity and service excellence across all operations.
• Oversee risk management frameworks and ensure full compliance with Bank of Uganda regulations, internal policies, and banking laws.
• Build, inspire, and manage a high-performance team, focusing on employee retention and development.
• Act as the principal representative of the Bank with government agencies, investors, donors, strategic partners, and the media.
• Promote organisational values, gender equity, and transformational activities that empower staff and clients.
• Maintain expansive knowledge of microfinance and retail banking products, digital technology solutions, and industry trends.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

• A Master’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, with at least 6 years at board or senior management level in a Retail Bank or similar financial services institution.
• Expansive knowledge of Ugandan banking regulations, retail banking operations, and a wide range of micro-banking products.
• Demonstrable commitment to a mission-driven agenda focused on social and economic transformation.
• Exceptional leadership skills with proven ability in strategic decision-making, relationship building, and communication.
• Fluent in English (verbal and written).
