Chief Executive Officer (CEO) - Kampala

Opportunity Bank Uganda, a leading microfinance institution committed to financial inclusion and serving communities across Uganda, is seeking a visionary and strategic leader for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in Kampala. This is a pivotal executive role responsible for steering the bank's overall direction, driving sustainable growth, and maximising its social impact.

Job Purpose

To provide overall leadership and management of Opportunity Bank, ensuring its maximum reach, sustainability, and transformation to effectively serve its customers. The CEO will be instrumental in drastically increasing the bank's lending portfolio and championing its mission-driven agenda to empower Ugandans.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Provide strategic direction and leadership to achieve the bank's vision, mission, and objectives.
• Drive business development and growth, proactively identifying new opportunities to gain a competitive edge in Uganda's financial sector.
• Oversee the development and implementation of corporate policies, strategies, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Ensure robust risk management and full compliance with Bank of Uganda regulations, internal policies, and all applicable laws.
• Build and maintain high-performance teams, fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and employee retention.
• Champion customer-centricity and service excellence as key market differentiators.
• Act as the principal representative of the bank with government agencies, investors, donors, strategic partners, and the media.
• Own donor relationships and key deliverables, liaising with potential investors to raise funds and build partnerships.
• Promote a corporate culture of gender equity, social transformation, and poverty eradication.

Qualifications & Experience Required

• A Master’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, with at least 6 years at Board or Senior Management level in a Retail Bank or similar financial services institution in Uganda or the region.
• Expansive knowledge of retail banking operations, microfinance products, banking regulations (Bank of Uganda), and Ugandan business law.
• Proven track record in strategic decision-making, business acumen, and achieving results.
• Demonstrable commitment to a mission-driven agenda focused on social impact.
• Excellent relationship-building, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• High emotional intelligence, strong problem-solving abilities, and fluency in English.
