Automation Engineer Job at Hima Cement in Kampala, Uganda

Hima Cement Limited, a leading building solutions company in Uganda, is seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to join its dynamic team in Kampala. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified engineer to contribute to the optimisation and reliability of our industrial automation systems within a major Ugandan manufacturing operation.

As an Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the automated control systems that drive our cement production processes. You will work with cutting-edge technology to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and quality standards are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, program, and maintain PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and DCS (Distributed Control Systems).
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on automation hardware and instrumentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and automation system faults to minimise downtime.
• Develop and implement control system modifications and upgrades to enhance plant performance.
• Ensure all automation activities comply with company safety standards and procedures.
• Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams.
• Maintain accurate documentation for control systems, software, and modifications.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field from a recognised institution.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in automation engineering, preferably within the manufacturing, cement, or heavy industry sector in Uganda or East Africa.
• Proven expertise in Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar PLC programming and SCADA systems.
• Strong understanding of industrial networks, motor controls, and instrumentation.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• A commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
