Agricultural Extension Officer Job in Gulu - Ministry of Agriculture Uganda

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is seeking a dedicated Agricultural Extension Officer to join our team in Gulu, Northern Region. This is a rewarding opportunity to directly impact Uganda's agricultural sector by supporting local farmers with modern techniques and sustainable practices.

About the Role:
As an Agricultural Extension Officer, you will serve as a vital link between the Ministry and farming communities in the Gulu district. You will work directly with farmers to improve productivity, promote food security, and enhance livelihoods through the adoption of improved agricultural technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular field visits to farms and farmer groups across the Gulu district.
• Organise and facilitate training workshops and demonstrations on modern agricultural techniques.
• Provide expert advice on crop production, soil management, pest control, and post-harvest handling.
• Prepare and submit detailed technical and progress reports on field activities.
• Collaborate with local government and community leaders to identify agricultural needs.
• Promote climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farming practices relevant to Northern Uganda.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Agronomy, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
• Proven knowledge of local farming practices and challenges, particularly in the Northern Region.
• A valid Class A motorcycle riding permit is mandatory for extensive field travel.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in local languages (especially Acholi) being a strong advantage.
• Strong report-writing and documentation skills.
• Passion for community development and rural transformation.
