WASH & Climate Specialist - International Consultancy at UNICEF Uganda

UNICEF Uganda is seeking an experienced WASH & Climate Specialist for an international consultancy position based in Kampala. This critical role supports the newly developed country programme for 2026-2030, expanding WASH portfolio into Environment and Climate Action to address the increasing adverse impacts of climate change on child-critical social services in Uganda.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with national and sub-national partners to implement WASH interventions in Karamoja sub-region
• Support the strategic transition to system strengthening approach for long-term sustainability
• Enhance institutional capacity, policy guidelines and financing frameworks
• Oversee expansion of WASH facilities in 150 schools and 15 healthcare facilities across all nine Karamoja districts
• Lead Environment and Climate Action initiatives including climate-resilient WASH services
• Promote climate education and renewable energy solutions (solarization, biogas systems)
• Develop national guidance, operational frameworks and monitoring/evaluation systems
• Facilitate strategic engagement with key stakeholders and explore climate innovations

Requirements:

• Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Water Resources, Climate Studies or related field
• Minimum 5 years' experience in WASH and climate change programming
• Proven experience working with international organisations in Uganda or East Africa
• Strong understanding of Uganda's climate challenges and WASH sector
• Excellent coordination and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience in policy development and institutional capacity building
