Job Description
Are you a seasoned WASH professional looking to make a significant impact in Uganda's West Nile region? World Vision International is seeking a dedicated WASH Technical Specialist to join our team in Arua. This senior role offers a unique opportunity to lead transformative Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programmes that directly improve the lives of refugee and host communities.
About the Role
As a WASH Technical Specialist, you will provide critical technical leadership in designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating comprehensive WASH interventions. Your expertise will be central to increasing access to safe water, improving sanitation facilities, and promoting life-saving hygiene practices in some of Uganda's most vulnerable communities.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide expert technical guidance for the planning, execution, and monitoring of WASH projects in the West Nile region.
- Conduct detailed assessments and surveys to inform strategic WASH programme design and implementation.
- Build the capacity of staff, local partners, and community members in sustainable WASH technologies and approaches.
- Ensure effective integration of WASH activities with other critical sectors such as health, nutrition, and protection.
- Develop high-quality technical reports, funding proposals, and documentation of best practices and lessons learned.
- Represent World Vision at WASH sector coordination meetings, clusters, and forums with government and NGO partners.
- Supervise, mentor, and support WASH project staff to achieve programme objectives.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in WASH programme implementation within humanitarian or development contexts.
- Strong technical knowledge of water supply systems (boreholes, piped schemes), sanitation (latrine construction, faecal sludge management), and community-led hygiene promotion methodologies.
- Proven experience working in refugee settings is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated proficiency in project design, proposal writing, and donor reporting.
- Excellent skills in training, facilitation, and multi-stakeholder coordination.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, under pressure, and in a culturally diverse environment.
- Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of local languages spoken in West Nile (e.g., Lugbara, Kakwa) is a significant advantage.
