Are you a finance professional passionate about sustainable development and climate action? Uganda Development Bank (UDB), the country's national development finance institution, is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Green Finance Officer to join our team at the Head Office in Kampala. This is a senior-level role at the forefront of financing Uganda's green economy transition.
Job Summary
The Senior Green Finance Officer will be responsible for leading and coordinating a diverse portfolio of green financing initiatives at UDB. You will play a pivotal role in developing and managing financial products that support renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable infrastructure, and other environmental projects across Uganda. You will report directly to the Manager, Green Finance.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop, implement, and manage UDB's green finance strategy and product portfolio.
- Coordinate the end-to-end process for green loan applications, from appraisal to disbursement and monitoring.
- Conduct technical and financial due diligence on proposed green projects to assess viability and impact.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders in the green economy sector.
- Ensure compliance with national environmental standards and international green finance principles (e.g., ICMA Green Bond Principles).
- Prepare reports and presentations on the performance and impact of the green finance portfolio.
- Provide expert advice and capacity building to both internal teams and external clients on green financing.
- Stay updated on global and local trends, policies, and opportunities in climate finance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., CFA, CPA) is a strong advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in banking, project finance, development finance, or a directly related field, with at least 2 years focused on green/climate finance.
- In-depth understanding of Uganda's environmental policy landscape, climate change challenges, and sustainable development goals.
- Strong financial modelling, credit analysis, and risk assessment skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and financial software.
