Research Officer (Value Chains) Job at Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development in Kampala
Job Description
The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MFPED) is seeking a dedicated and analytical Research Officer to join our team, focusing on value chain analysis and development. This is a critical role within Uganda's premier economic planning institution, offering a unique opportunity to contribute directly to national economic transformation and industrialisation strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on priority agricultural, manufacturing, and service sector value chains in Uganda.
- Collect, analyse, and interpret economic data to identify constraints and opportunities within specific value chains.
- Develop evidence-based policy briefs, reports, and recommendations to inform government interventions and investment.
- Collaborate with sector ministries, private sector associations, and development partners on value chain development initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of existing policies and programmes on targeted value chains.
- Prepare presentations and contribute to stakeholder workshops and dialogues on industrial policy.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master's degree is a strong advantage.
- At least 3 years of proven experience in economic research, value chain analysis, or agricultural/industrial policy work.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, with proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R).
- Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation abilities.
- A deep understanding of the Ugandan economy and its key productive sectors.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
