Research Officer - Value Chains Job Opportunity
The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MFPED) is seeking a qualified and motivated Research Officer to join our team in Kampala. This is a critical role focused on analysing and strengthening value chains to support Uganda's economic development agenda. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on priority agricultural and industrial value chains in Uganda.
- Collect, process, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data related to value chain performance, constraints, and opportunities.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and presentations on research findings for senior management and stakeholders.
- Support the development of evidence-based strategies and interventions to enhance value chain competitiveness and inclusivity.
- Collaborate with other government ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), private sector players, and development partners.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of existing value chain programmes and initiatives.
- Stay updated on global and regional trends in value chain development and best practices.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master's degree is a strong advantage.
- At least 3 years of proven experience in economic research, value chain analysis, or a similar role, preferably within the Ugandan context.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in statistical software (e.g., STATA, SPSS, R) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of Uganda's national development plans and economic landscape is essential.
