Job Description
UN Women Uganda is seeking a dedicated and experienced Programme Specialist for Women's Economic Empowerment to join our team in Kampala. This is a senior-level opportunity to drive transformative change and advance gender equality through impactful economic programmes across Uganda.
As a key member of our team, you will provide strategic technical leadership to enhance women's access to resources, markets, and decent work. You will collaborate with government ministries, civil society organisations, and development partners to design and implement initiatives that break down barriers for Ugandan women in the economy.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Design, implement, and manage innovative programmes focused on women's economic empowerment in Uganda, including access to finance, entrepreneurship, and value chain development.
- Provide high-level technical assistance and policy advice to government partners on integrating gender perspectives into national and local economic planning and budgeting.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including women's rights organisations, private sector actors, and UN agencies.
- Lead robust monitoring, evaluation, and reporting (MER) to track programme impact, outcomes, and lessons learned.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and funding proposals for donors and senior management.
- Contribute to knowledge management by documenting best practices and success stories from the field.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- A Master's degree in Economics, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive, professional experience specifically in designing and managing women's economic empowerment programmes, preferably within the Ugandan or East African context.
- Proven expertise in gender-responsive economic policy, women's rights frameworks, and the specific challenges and opportunities for women in the Ugandan economy.
- Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills with a proven ability to produce high-quality reports.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English. Knowledge of local Ugandan languages is an added advantage.
- Experience working with the United Nations system, international NGOs, or government is highly desirable.
