Job Description

Join UN Women as a Programme Officer to End Violence Against Women in Northern Uganda

UN Women Uganda is seeking a dedicated and experienced Programme Officer to support the implementation of critical initiatives aimed at preventing and responding to violence against women and girls in Northern Uganda. This is a vital role based in Gulu, offering the opportunity to drive meaningful change in communities affected by conflict and gender-based violence (GBV).

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Coordinate and support the implementation of UN Women's programmes to prevent and respond to violence against women in Northern Uganda.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to government and civil society partners working on GBV issues.
  • Monitor and report on programme interventions, ensuring alignment with project goals and donor requirements.
  • Facilitate coordination among stakeholders, including local government, NGOs, and community groups.
  • Contribute to the development of programme strategies, work plans, and funding proposals.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from the field.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in gender-based violence (GBV) programming, women's rights, or humanitarian response.
  • Proven experience working with government institutions and civil society organisations in Uganda.
  • Strong knowledge of the social, cultural, and political context of Northern Uganda.
  • Excellent skills in programme coordination, monitoring, and partner management.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local languages (e.g., Acholi) is a strong asset.
