Legal Officer Job in Uganda - Mogo Loans Limited

Mogo Loans Limited, a leading financial services provider in Uganda, is seeking a qualified and experienced Legal Officer to join our dynamic legal team. About the Role

As a Legal Officer at Mogo Loans Limited, you will play a crucial role in protecting the company's legal interests and ensuring compliance with Ugandan laws and regulations. You will be responsible for managing litigation, providing sound legal advice, and supporting various departments on legal matters. This position requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of the Ugandan legal landscape, particularly as it relates to commercial and financial law.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all litigation and legal disputes involving the company in Ugandan courts.
• Provide timely and accurate legal advice to internal stakeholders on a wide range of issues.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
• Ensure the company's operations comply with all relevant Ugandan laws, including the Financial Institutions Act, Data Protection Act, and other regulatory requirements.
• Liaise with external legal counsel and represent the company's interests in legal proceedings.
• Conduct legal research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in Ugandan legislation affecting the financial sector.
• Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to mitigate risk.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognised Ugandan university.
• A Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC).
• Valid Practicing Certificate from the Uganda Law Council.
• Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience, preferably within the financial services, banking, or a corporate legal environment in Uganda.
• Proven experience in handling litigation and dispute resolution in Ugandan courts.
• Excellent knowledge of Ugandan commercial, contract, and corporate law.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
