Job Description

Posta Uganda, the national postal service, is seeking a qualified and experienced Legal Officer to join its team in Kampala. This is a fantastic opportunity for a legal professional to contribute to the operations of a vital national institution. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing legal counsel and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Provide legal advice and support to various departments within Posta Uganda on a wide range of matters.
  • Draft, review, and vet legal documents, contracts, agreements, and memoranda of understanding.
  • Assist in managing litigation and representing the organisation's interests in legal proceedings as required.
  • Ensure the organisation's operations comply with Ugandan laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare opinions on issues affecting the postal service.
  • Liaise with external lawyers and government agencies on legal matters.
  • Support the Legal Services department in developing and implementing legal policies and procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognised university.
  • A Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC).
  • Must be an enrolled Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid practising certificate.
  • At least 3 years of post-qualification experience in a busy legal environment, preferably in a corporate or government institution.
  • Strong knowledge of Ugandan commercial, corporate, and employment law.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
