Job Description
The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is seeking a qualified and experienced Legal Officer to join its dynamic team in Kampala. This is a pivotal role within Uganda's premier tourism promotion agency, offering the opportunity to contribute to the legal framework that supports the growth and regulation of Uganda's vibrant tourism sector.
As the Legal Officer, you will provide comprehensive legal advisory services to the Board, management, and staff. You will be instrumental in ensuring UTB's operations comply with Ugandan laws and regulations, managing contracts, and protecting the organisation's legal interests.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
β’ Provide timely legal advice and opinions on all matters affecting UTB's operations and mandate.
β’ Draft, review, and vet contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding (MOUs), and other legal documents.
β’ Represent UTB in legal proceedings and liaise with external lawyers as required.
β’ Ensure compliance with the Tourism Act, Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets (PPDA) Act, and other relevant Ugandan legislation.
β’ Manage intellectual property rights related to Uganda's tourism brand and assets.
β’ Conduct legal research and prepare reports for management and the Board of Directors.
β’ Develop and deliver legal awareness sessions for UTB staff.
Requirements & Qualifications:
β’ A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognised university.
β’ A Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC) or equivalent.
β’ Must be enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid practising certificate.
β’ A minimum of three (3) years of post-enrolment practical legal experience, preferably in a corporate, government, or regulatory environment.
β’ Strong knowledge of Ugandan commercial law, contract law, and public administration law.
β’ Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
β’ High degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
