Field Security Officer Job in Arua - UNHCR Uganda Careers

UNHCR Uganda is hiring a Field Security Officer to be based in Arua. This is a critical role within the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, focused on ensuring the safety and security of personnel, operations, and assets in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive security risk assessments and develop effective security plans for UNHCR operations in the assigned area.
• Monitor the local security situation in Arua and the surrounding region, providing timely advice and updates to management and staff.
• Maintain strong liaison with Ugandan security authorities, other UN agencies, and humanitarian partners.
• Ensure strict compliance with UN security management system (UNDSS) policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Develop and conduct security training, briefings, and awareness sessions for all staff members.
• Support the implementation of security measures and contingency plans.
• Prepare regular security reports and incident analyses.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• A university degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in security management, preferably with an international organisation or in a humanitarian context.
• Experience working in conflict or post-conflict environments is highly desirable.
• Practical knowledge of the UN security management system is a distinct advantage.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the West Nile region is a plus.
• Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a multicultural team.
