Job Summary

The Field Security Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all UNHCR staff, operations, and assets in Uganda. You will be the key focal point for security management, working closely with national authorities and other partners to enable the delivery of vital protection and assistance services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive security risk assessments for UNHCR operations and field locations across Uganda.
• Develop, implement, and review security plans, protocols, and contingency plans.
• Provide security training and briefings to UNHCR personnel, partners, and eligible family members.
• Liaise and maintain strong working relationships with national security authorities, UN agencies, and NGO security counterparts.
• Monitor the local security situation, analyse trends, and provide timely advice and alerts to management.
• Investigate security-related incidents affecting UNHCR personnel or assets.
• Ensure compliance with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) policies and guidelines.

Requirements and Qualifications

• A university degree in Security Management, Political Science, Military Science, Law Enforcement, or a related field is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in security risk management, preferably in an international or humanitarian context.
• In-depth knowledge and experience with the UN Security Management System is essential.
• Proven experience working in complex security environments, with knowledge of the Ugandan/East African context being a strong asset.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory. Knowledge of other local languages spoken in Uganda is an advantage.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.
