Deputy Director of Programmes Job Opportunity at IRC Uganda
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Deputy Director of Programmes to join our team in Uganda. This senior leadership position is critical for overseeing programme quality, strategy, and implementation across IRC's humanitarian and development initiatives in Uganda. If you are a seasoned programme management professional passionate about making a difference in Uganda's development landscape, this role offers a significant opportunity to lead and innovate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all IRC programmes across Uganda
- Ensure programme quality, compliance, and alignment with IRC's global standards and Uganda's national development priorities
- Lead programme development, design, and proposal writing for new funding opportunities
- Manage and mentor programme staff, fostering professional growth and team cohesion
- Strengthen monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) systems
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies, donors, and local organisations in Uganda
- Ensure effective budget management and resource mobilisation for programme sustainability
- Represent IRC in national forums and coordination mechanisms relevant to Uganda's humanitarian and development sectors
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Master's degree in International Development, Social Sciences, or related field
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in programme management within humanitarian or development contexts, with substantial experience in Uganda or East Africa
- Proven track record in strategic planning, programme design, and quality assurance
- Strong understanding of Uganda's development context and donor landscape
- Excellent leadership, team management, and capacity building skills
- Demonstrated experience in proposal writing and donor reporting for major institutional donors
- Fluency in English required; knowledge of local Ugandan languages is an advantage
