Community Health Specialist Opportunity at FHI 360 in Jinja
Are you a seasoned public health professional passionate about community-based interventions? FHI 360, a leading international non-profit organisation, is seeking a dedicated Community Health Specialist to join our team in Jinja, Uganda. This is a senior-level role where you will lead critical health programmes in Eastern Uganda, making a tangible impact on HIV prevention, maternal and child health, and nutrition outcomes.
Job Summary
As the Community Health Specialist, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring community health strategies. You will work closely with Village Health Teams (VHTs), local government structures, and community groups to strengthen the health system and improve service delivery at the grassroots level.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Lead the design and implementation of innovative community-based health interventions in Eastern Uganda.
- Train, mentor, and supervise community health workers and Village Health Teams (VHTs) to ensure quality service delivery.
- Coordinate effectively with district health teams, local government, and existing community structures to align programmes with national health priorities.
- Monitor and evaluate community health activities, track outcomes, and prepare comprehensive reports for stakeholders.
- Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories to guide programme scaling and improvement.
- Ensure all community health strategies are culturally appropriate and address the specific needs of the local population.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- A Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Social Work, Nursing, or a directly related field from a recognised institution.
- A minimum of 6 years of progressive, hands-on experience in community health programming within Uganda.
- In-depth knowledge of Uganda's community health system, policies, and the VHT framework.
- Proven experience in training facilitation, community mobilisation, and working directly with grassroots community groups.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
- Strong understanding of HIV/AIDS, maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), and nutrition programming is essential.
