Broodstock Technician Jobs in Butembe-Buikwe (3 Positions) at Yalelo Uganda

Yalelo Uganda, a leader in aquaculture and fish farming, is seeking three (3) dedicated and skilled Broodstock Technicians to join our hatchery team in Butembe-Buikwe. This is an exciting full-time opportunity to contribute to Uganda's growing aquaculture sector and work with a pioneering company in sustainable fish production.

As a Broodstock Technician, you will play a critical role in managing the health, breeding, and care of our parent fish stock (broodstock) to ensure high-quality fingerling production. You will be at the heart of our hatchery operations, directly impacting our success and the availability of fish for the Ugandan market.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:
• Manage daily care and feeding of broodstock fish according to established protocols.
• Monitor and maintain optimal water quality parameters (temperature, oxygen, pH) in broodstock tanks.
• Assist in the selection and conditioning of broodstock for spawning activities.
• Perform routine health checks and identify signs of disease or stress in the stock.
• Maintain accurate records of stock movements, feeding regimes, and water quality data.
• Follow strict biosecurity and hygiene measures to prevent disease outbreaks.
• Work collaboratively with the hatchery team to achieve production targets.
• Operate and perform basic maintenance on hatchery equipment (pumps, aerators, filters).

Requirements & Qualifications:
• Diploma or Certificate in Fisheries & Aquaculture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, or a related field from a recognised institution.
• Prior hands-on experience working in a fish hatchery, farm, or similar aquaculture environment is a strong advantage.
• Practical knowledge of fish biology, health management, and water quality is essential.
• Ability to perform physical tasks and work in an outdoor/wet environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Willingness to work in Butembe-Buikwe.
