Broodstock Technician Job in Butembe-Buikwe (3 Positions) at Yalelo Uganda

Yalelo Uganda, a leader in aquaculture and fish farming, is seeking three (3) dedicated Broodstock Technicians to join our expanding hatchery operations in Butembe-Buikwe. This is a fantastic full-time opportunity for individuals passionate about aquaculture, fisheries science, and contributing to Uganda's growing fish production sector.

As a Broodstock Technician, you will play a critical role in managing our parent fish stock to ensure the highest quality of fingerlings for sustainable aquaculture. You will work hands-on in our state-of-the-art hatchery facility, applying scientific principles to fish breeding and health management.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Monitor and manage the health, nutrition, and environment of broodstock (parent fish).
• Execute and document spawning procedures and egg collection protocols.
• Maintain accurate records of broodstock performance, including fecundity and fertility rates.
• Assist in the selection and conditioning of superior broodstock for genetic improvement.
• Ensure all hatchery equipment and broodstock tanks are clean and functioning optimally.
• Follow strict biosecurity and animal welfare standards to prevent disease outbreaks.
• Work collaboratively with other hatchery staff to meet production targets.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Diploma or Certificate in Fisheries and Aquaculture, Animal Production, Veterinary Science, or a related field from a recognised institution.
• Prior hands-on experience in a hatchery or fish farm setting is a strong advantage.
• Strong practical skills and attention to detail for handling delicate biological processes.
• Ability to work in a team and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Willingness to work in Butembe-Buikwe and adapt to the demands of a live-production environment.
