As a Senior Protection Assistant, you will report to a senior Protection colleague and play a key role in monitoring protection standards, providing functional support to programme staff, and contributing to a comprehensive protection strategy. You will work directly with communities, local authorities, and partner organisations to safeguard the rights of refugees and other displaced persons.

  • Assist in conducting eligibility and status determination for persons of concern.
  • Contribute to national-level child protection and education plans as part of the broader protection strategy.
  • Liaise with competent authorities to ensure the issuance of personal documentation for PoC.
  • Facilitate effective information management by providing disaggregated data on PoC and their challenges.
  • Participate in capacity-building initiatives for authorities and NGOs to strengthen national protection legislation and procedures.
  • Assist in identifying durable solutions, including voluntary repatriation, local integration, and resettlement.
  • Ensure compliance with all protection Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and uphold the highest standards of professional integrity.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma with 2 years of relevant work experience OR a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Field of Study: A background in International Law, Political Science, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Functional Skills: Strong computer literacy (IT), awareness of protection and solutions frameworks (CL), and knowledge of protection-related guidelines and standards (PR).
  • Languages: Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN working languages or local Ugandan languages is a strong asset.
  • Personal Attributes: A commitment to UNHCR's core values of integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity. Demonstrated ability to work in a sensitive, multi-cultural environment.

What UNHCR Offers:

  • A competitive United Nations compensation and benefits package.
  • A meaningful career contributing to the protection of vulnerable populations in Uganda.
  • A diverse, inclusive, and empowering working environment.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • UNHCR is an equal opportunity employer and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
