Job Description

Join a Leading Ugandan Company as a Safety Supervisor

Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL), one of Uganda's premier sugar manufacturers and a cornerstone of the local economy, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Supervisor to join our team. This is a vital role for a professional passionate about creating safe and sustainable work environments across our factories and plantation sites in Uganda.

About the Role: Safety Supervisor

As our Safety Supervisor, you will be at the forefront of implementing and managing our comprehensive Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) system. You will coordinate all internal and external audits, drive corrective actions, and ensure our operations not only meet but exceed national and international safety standards. This is a full-time, senior-level position ideal for someone with a strong background in industrial safety within the Ugandan context.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Coordinate the end-to-end implementation of the Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) management system across all assigned departments and sites.
  • Lead and liaise with Heads of Department and Section Heads to conduct thorough hazard identification, risk assessments, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Follow up and ensure the implementation of appropriate control measures to mitigate identified risks.
  • Lead investigations into all workplace incidents and accidents, ensuring root causes are identified.
  • Drive the implementation of corrective actions and disseminate one-point lessons learned from incidents to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage all SHE-related internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings.
  • Continuously update the SHE system to incorporate new Ugandan legal requirements and other applicable standards relevant to KSL's operations.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety and environmental stewardship among all staff and contractors.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a safety supervisory role, preferably within the manufacturing, agricultural, or sugar industry in Uganda.
  • In-depth knowledge of Ugandan safety, health, and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Strong experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and managing audit processes.
  • Excellent communication, liaison, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of management and staff.
  • Professional certification in Occupational Safety and Health (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is a strong advantage.
