Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL), one of Uganda's leading sugar manufacturers and a key player in the nation's agricultural sector, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Supervisor to join our team in Jinja. This is a critical role for ensuring the health and safety of our workforce across all factory and plantation operations.

Job Purpose

You will be responsible for coordinating and managing the end-to-end Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) management system. Your expertise will drive excellence in safety standards, ensuring compliance with Ugandan regulations and protecting our most valuable asset—our people.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain the company's SHE management system across all assigned departments, sections, and sites.
• Coordinate all internal and external safety, health, and environment audits and ensure timely corrective actions.
• Regularly update the SHE system with new legal and operational requirements relevant to KSL's operations in Uganda.
• Work closely with Heads of Department and Section Heads to conduct thorough hazard identification, risk assessments, and environmental impact assessments.
• Lead incident and accident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and follow-up on corrective actions and one-point lessons.
• Promote a strong safety culture through training, awareness programmes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Liaise with relevant Ugandan authorities on safety and environmental compliance matters.

Requirements and Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is a strong advantage.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in a safety supervisory role, preferably within the manufacturing, agricultural, or sugar industry in Uganda.
• In-depth knowledge of Ugandan safety, health, and environmental laws and regulations.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical skills with experience in incident investigation and risk assessment methodologies.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across different departments.
