Job Description

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MFPED) is seeking a dedicated and analytical Research Officer to join our team in Kampala. This is a critical role focused on analysing and strengthening agricultural and industrial value chains to support Uganda's economic development agenda. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on priority value chains within Uganda's economy.
  • Collect, process, and analyse both qualitative and quantitative data related to production, marketing, and financing of value chains.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and presentations on research findings for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance and impact of existing value chain interventions and programmes.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, private sector partners, and development partners on joint research initiatives.
  • Provide technical input to support the formulation of policies and strategies aimed at enhancing value chain competitiveness and inclusivity.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master's degree will be an added advantage.
  • At least three (3) years of proven experience in economic research, value chain analysis, or a related field, preferably within Uganda.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in statistical software (e.g., STATA, SPSS, R) and data visualisation tools.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills in English.
  • A good understanding of Uganda's economic landscape, particularly the agricultural and industrial sectors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
