Job Description

The International Potato Center (CIP), a leading global research-for-development organisation, is seeking a reliable and experienced Driver to join their team in Kampala, Uganda. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled driver to contribute to important agricultural research and development work across Uganda.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Safely operate and maintain assigned CIP vehicles for staff transportation, field visits, and project-related activities.

  • Transport staff, visitors, and project materials to various locations within Kampala and across different regions of Uganda.

  • Ensure timely and efficient travel while strictly adhering to all Ugandan traffic laws and CIP safety regulations.

  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance checks (oil, water, tyre pressure, brakes) and maintain accurate vehicle logbooks.

  • Arrange for regular vehicle servicing and report any mechanical issues promptly to the administration.

  • Assist with basic office logistics, including delivery and collection of documents, mail, and small packages.

  • Ensure the vehicle is always clean, fuelled, and ready for official duty.

Requirements & Qualifications:



  • Valid Ugandan Driving Permit (Classes B, DL, and CM are a strong advantage).

  • Minimum of a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent.

  • At least 5 years of proven professional driving experience, preferably with an international NGO, research institution, or reputable organisation.

  • Excellent knowledge of Ugandan road networks, traffic laws, and defensive driving techniques.

  • Clean driving record with no major traffic offences.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting minor vehicle issues.

  • Strong sense of responsibility, punctuality, and discretion.

  • Good communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages (Luganda, Runyankole, etc.) is an added advantage.
