Job Description

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is seeking a qualified National Consultant to revise and enhance the pre-departure orientation and training programme for Ugandan migrant workers. This critical role aims to strengthen protection mechanisms and improve working conditions for Ugandan nationals seeking employment opportunities abroad.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive review and assessment of the existing pre-departure orientation programme
  • Develop updated training modules addressing current labour migration challenges
  • Incorporate Ugandan context and local labour market dynamics
  • Integrate international labour standards and best practices
  • Design monitoring and evaluation frameworks for programme effectiveness
  • Collaborate with relevant government ministries and stakeholders
  • Ensure cultural sensitivity and gender mainstreaming in all materials

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in Social Sciences, Labour Relations, Migration Studies or related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in labour migration, capacity building or training development
  • Proven expertise in curriculum development and training material preparation
  • Strong understanding of Uganda's labour migration landscape and challenges
  • Experience working with international organizations or government agencies
  • Excellent research, analytical and report-writing skills
  • Familiarity with ILO standards and conventions on labour migration
