Job Description
Kiira Motors Corporation, Uganda's pioneering automotive manufacturer, is seeking a dedicated and resourceful Legal Affairs & Compliance Officer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our legal team, you will be responsible for ensuring the corporation operates within the legal and regulatory framework of Uganda and our international partners. You will play a critical role in safeguarding the company's interests and promoting a culture of integrity and compliance.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provide expert legal advice and support on a wide range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters relevant to the automotive manufacturing sector in Uganda.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding (MOUs), and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Develop, implement, and monitor robust compliance programmes to ensure adherence to Ugandan laws, industry regulations, and internal policies.
- Manage and mitigate legal risks by conducting thorough research and analysis on applicable legislation and case law.
- Liaise with external counsel, government bodies, and regulatory authorities in Uganda as required.
- Advise on corporate governance, intellectual property, employment law, and health & safety regulations.
- Prepare and deliver legal training to staff to foster company-wide awareness of compliance obligations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognised university in Uganda or abroad.
- Must be an enrolled Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid practising certificate.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in corporate law, commercial law, or compliance, preferably within manufacturing, engineering, or a related sector in Uganda.
- Strong knowledge of Ugandan corporate, commercial, and labour laws.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards.
