Job Description

Chemonics International is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional for the position of Uganda Country Technical Lead for the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET). This is a senior leadership role based in Kampala, Uganda, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to food security analysis and early warning systems that impact vulnerable communities across the country.

As the Uganda Country Technical Lead, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and technical oversight for FEWS NET activities. You will lead a team of analysts, manage key stakeholder relationships with government ministries, UN agencies, and NGOs, and ensure the production of high-quality, timely food security reports and alerts. Your work will directly inform humanitarian and development programming in Uganda.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for all FEWS NET activities in Uganda.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of food security analysts and technical staff.
• Oversee the development and dissemination of accurate, evidence-based food security early warning reports, bulletins, and alerts.
• Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), UN agencies (WFP, FAO), and NGO partners.
• Represent FEWS NET and Chemonics at high-level technical meetings, workshops, and coordination forums.
• Ensure all project deliverables meet the highest technical standards and are submitted on time.
• Analyse complex food security data from multiple sources to identify emerging risks and trends.

Requirements & Qualifications:
• A Master’s degree or higher in Agriculture, Economics, Food Security, Nutrition, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive professional experience in food security analysis, early warning systems, or a closely related sector.
• Proven experience in a senior technical leadership or management role, preferably within Uganda or the East African region.
• In-depth understanding of Uganda’s food security context, climate patterns, and agricultural systems.
• Excellent analytical, report-writing, and presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management abilities.
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of local Ugandan languages is an asset.
